Manic depressives like Robin Williams supposedly don't want to die but just want the pain to end.
Socially, we seem to have accepted this situatioin as requiring our understanding and not our scorn.
Yet if a person turned to alcohol to end their pain, it would likely be seen as weakness and vice. Why?
