Rudy Vallee - Brother can you spare a dime (1931)

Uploaded on Oct 9, 2008

Rudy Vallée (July 28, 1901 - July 3, 1986)

was
a popular American singer, actor, bandleader, and entertainer. Born
Hubert Prior Vallée in Island Pond, Vermont, the son of Charles Alphonse
and Catherine Lynch Vallée. Both of his parents were born and raised in
Vermont, but their parents were immigrants; the Vallées being of French
Canadian origin, while the Lynches were from Ireland. Rudy grew up in
Westbrook, Maine.

Having played drums in his high school band,
Vallee played clarinet and saxophone in various bands around New England
in his youth. In 1917, he decided to enlist for World War I, but was
discharged when the Navy authorities found out that he was only 15. He
enlisted in Portland, Maine on March 29, 1917, under the false birthdate
of July 28, 1899. He was discharged at the Naval Training Station,
Newport, Rhode Island, on May 17, 1917 with 41 days of active service.

From 1924 through 1925, he played with the "Savoy Havana Band" in
London. He then returned to the States to obtain a degree in Philosophy
from Yale and to form his own band, "Rudy Vallee and the Connecticut
Yankees." With this band, which featured two violins, two saxophones, a
piano, a banjo and drums, he started taking vocals (supposedly
reluctantly at first).

He had a rather thin, wavering tenor voice and
seemed more at home singing sweet ballads than attempting vocals on jazz
numbers. However, his singing, together with his suave manner and
handsome boyish looks, attracted great attention, especially from young
women[citation needed]. Vallee was given a recording contract and in
1928, he started performing on the radio.

Vallee's recording
career began in 1928 recording for Columbia Records' cheap labels
(Harmony, Velvet Tone, and Diva). He signed to Victor in February 1929
and remained through late 1931, leaving after a heated dispute with
company executives over title selections. He then recorded for the
short-lived, but extremely popular "Hit of the Week" label (which sold
records laminated onto cardboard).

In August 1932, he signed with
Columbia and stayed with them through 1933; he returned to Victor in
June 1933. His records were issued on Victor's new budget label,
Bluebird, until November 1933 when he was moved up the full-priced
Victor label. He stayed with Victor until signing with ARC in 1936, who
released his records on their Perfect, Melotone, Conqueror and Romeo
labels until 1937 when he returned to Victor.

Rudy Vallee - The Drunkard Song (There Is A Tavern In The Town) 1934 Laughing Version

Rudy Vallee+ His Connecticut Yankees
This Song Reached #6 On US Music Charts In 1934.

This Is The Laughing Version.
Rudy Vallée (July 28, 1901 -- July 3, 1986) was an American singer, actor, bandleader, and entertainer.
One
of his record hits was "The Drunkard Song," popularly known as "There
Is a Tavern in the Town." Vallée couldn't stop laughing during the first
take, and managed a second take reasonably well. The "laughing" version
was so infectious, however, that Victor released both takes. Song
Written by William H. Hills.
Victor released two versions of this
song. A "straight" version and one in which Rudy Valee cracks up
laughing. The Laughing version was an instant hit.
There is a Tavern in the Town
Lyrics:
There is a tavern in the town, in the town
And there my true love sits him down, sits him down,
And drinks his wine as merry as can be,
And never, never thinks of me.

cho:
Fare thee well, for I must leave thee, Do not let this parting
grieve thee, And remember that the best of friends Must part,
must part. Adieu, adieu kind friends, yes, adieu I can no longer
stay with you, stay with you, I'll hang my harp on the weeping
willow tree, And may the world go well with thee.

He left me for a damsel dark, damsel dark,
Each Friday night they used to spark,
Used to spark,
And now my love who once was true to me
Takes this dark damsel on his knee.

And now I see him nevermore, nevermore;
He never knocks upon my door, on my door;
Oh, woe is me; he pinned a little note,
And these were all the words he wrote:

Oh, dig my grave both wide and deep, wide and deep;
Put tombstones at my head and feet, head and feet
And on my breast you may carve a turtle dove,
To signify I died of love.

Tony Stevens - bass guitar, backing vocals

Roger Earl - drums, percussion

Lyrics:

I don't want you, cook my bread,

I don't want you, make my bed,

I don't want your money too,

I just wanna make love to you.

I don't want you, be no slave,

I don't want you, work all day,

I don't want you to be sad and blue,

I just wanna make love to you.

I can tell by the way that you baby talk,

I can see by the way that you switch and walk,

I can tell by the way that you treat your man,

But I could love you baby, it's a cryin' shame.

I don't want you, wash my clothes,

I don't want you, keep a home,

I don't want you to be true,

I just wanna make love to you.

I don't want you, be no slave,

I don't want you, work all day,

I don't want you to be true,

I just wanna make love to you.

I don't want you, keep a home,

I don't want you, wash my clothes,

I don't want you to be true,

I just wanna make love

Think more clearly, be more positive, and better express creativity.

As neuroscience has advanced, we have learnt that we can actually train our brains to think more clearly, be more positive, and better express creativity.

In fact, Steve Jobs famously trained his brain using Zen mindfulness meditation to reduce stress, enhance clarity, and boost his creativity.

Each of the ideas below are designed to increase your intelligence. Doing these in combination will allow for the greatest results.

BBC Arena Blues Night Ep1: Sonny Boy Williamson Sings (BBC4)

Published on Mar 25, 2015
Blues Night: 1. Sonny Boy Williamson Sings
First
transmitted in 1985, Blues Night presents rare footage of the harmonica
blues player Sonny Boy Williamson, who gave B.B. King his big break in
1948.

‘He was on the radio doing live performances when I first came to
Memphis. He put me on his show to do this one song – a lady
saloon-keeper hired me that day and I’ve worked ever since,’ King
explained to the Radio Times.

Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker (Lyric)

I'm A Fool To Want You

Rats are ticklish

Some worshiped Zeus, some Apollo, so what's the difference with worshiping a rat?

This article really intrigues me... the Zebra Finches we keep as pets have many vocalizations humans can't hear... I picture them giggling at the offer of some cheese... the Hindu Temples where they worship the rats must be a rodent laugh factory.

Rats are ticklish

Photo published for Tickling rats can make them chuckle

Rats ARE ticklish - but they only 'laugh' when they are in a good mood

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3924300/Rats-ticklish-laugh-good-mood.html#v-7180138883129691345

How do you make a rat laugh? Just tickle it, say scientists (and if you don't believe them, watch their bizarre experiment)

  • Researchers found neurons in rat brains linked to ticklishness and laughter
  • When they stimulated these brain cells they made the animals chuckle
  • Rats were only found to enjoy the sensation if they were already happy
  • The findings suggest the somatosensory cortex may play a role in mood

Associated with the plague and demonised in novels such as George Orwell's 1984, rats don’t have the best of reputations.
But the vilified rodents are known to giggle.
Now scientists have found that rats ‘enjoy’ being tickled – but only if they were already in a good mood.
Researchers at Humboldt University of Berlin identified neurons in rats’ brains linked to ticklishness and laughter and by stimulating them, were able to elicit a chuckle from the furry creatures.
The finding suggests the somatosensory cortex - the brain region where the neurons were located - may play some role in mood.
It was previously thought this brain region is primarily associated with the sense of touch.
The study, published in the journal Science, builds on previous work in which it was discovered tickling rats causes them to laugh at high frequencies that are inaudible to humans.
While tickling is easy to do, how the sensation reaches our brain is unclear.
Know any good jokes? Rats love to chuckle, according to a new study. Researchers captured footage of a rat emitting ultrasonic vocalisations when it was tickled (still pictured)
Know any good jokes? Rats love to chuckle, according to a new study. Researchers captured footage of a rat emitting ultrasonic vocalisations when it was tickled (still pictured)

To investigate, Shimpei Ishiyama and Michael Brecht monitored neuron activity in the rat somatosensory cortex before and during tickling.
They found that consistent with earlier claims that tickling is rewarding, the rats readily approached the tickling hand and performed ‘joy jumps’ as well as ultrasonic giggles when tickled.
The experts observed that neural firing rates in the deep layers of the somatosensory cortex increased along with laughter when the rats were tickled.
To test this correlation, they stimulated somatosensory cortex neurons when the rats were not being tickled, which they found also resulted in laughter.
However, when the rats were in an anxious mood – as a result of being placed on a high platform, for example - tickling-evoked laughter and neural firing were suppressed.
The authors believe their findings support Darwin's idea that ‘the mind must be in a pleasurable condition’ for ticklish laughter to occur.

'TWO MICE WALK INTO A BAR...': THE SCIENCE OF HOW RATS LAUGH

Researchers have found that rats laugh at high frequencies inaudible to humans
Researchers have found that rats laugh at high frequencies inaudible to humans
Laughing rodents may seem like a strange phenomenon, but researchers have found that rats laugh at high frequencies inaudible to humans.
Their 50-kHz ultrasonic calls, known as chirps, are distinct from the other noises they make, Scientific American reported.
Researcher Jaak Panksepp is thought to have been the first to discover that chirping can be compared to laughter in humans, by tickling rats,
He also found that the most ticklish rats - those that chirped the most - were also the most naturally playful and that laughter in young rats seems to increase bonding.
This is because in his experiments, young rats actively sought out a hand that had tickled them - presumably because the experience was enjoyable.
But he stopped short of asserting rats have a sense of humour, simply pointing out there seems to be similarities between laughter in children when they play and the same activity in rats.

Norwegian Wood: the soul chaos

"I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me
She Showed me her room, is not it good, Norwegian wood?
She asked me to stay and she Told me to sit anywhere
So I Looked around and I noticed there was not a chair
I sat on the rug, drinking her wine, biding my time We Talked until two and then she said, It's time for bed "...
